Cloud platform supports the company’s decentralized business model and long-term IT strategy
PLEASANTON, CA — Aug. 7, 2013 – Genomic testing company, GenomeDx Biosciences Inc., replaced its document management system with Veeva Systems’ Vault QualityDocs, the first cloud-based content solution developed specifically for the creation, review, approval, and distribution of controlled documents across life sciences organizations. After a thorough evaluation process, GenomeDx chose Vault for its ability to efficiently manage thousands of documents throughout their lifecycle – from development through external auditing – in the cloud.
“We looked at other document systems but nothing met our needs completely…they were all like a square peg in a round hole,” said Andy Katz, Ph.D., VP, Operations & Chief Business Officer at GenomeDx. “Vault fits us perfectly, with all of the key functionality that we need built right in to the system without a lot of customization.”
GenomeDx’s switch to Vault QualityDocs supports its mobile workforce. “We’re a decentralized business and many of our people are mobile. Vault makes us more productive by giving us the ability to use iPads and other mobile devices to securely access controlled documents in the cloud from any place.”
In fact, GenomeDx said that one of the key reasons it chose Vault QualityDocs is for its ability to track and review a document through all stages of its lifecycle – with notes, edits, annotations, and more – from anywhere without downloading it. According to Katz, this has proven to be a significant time saver for the company because documents can be previewed and commented on without opening or printing them in a separate application.
Additionally, Vault QualityDocs has made document search and retrieval substantially faster as compared to GenomeDx’s previous system. Katz explained, “With Vault, we’re able to find and view any document we need in seconds.”
With more efficient internal document management, GenomeDx expects external audits will be simplified through a paperless solution with all documents online through Vault.
“Our expectation is that it will be quicker to retrieve requested documents during an inspection and easier to review the audit trail,” Katz said. “Our goal is to have a fully electronic compliance process that allows regulatory inspectors to easily access the system and find the documents they need during an audit.”
GenomeDx reports that it was also pleased with the ease of implementing and validating the system. “The speed at which we have been able to configure Vault to meet our needs, as well as its ability to grow with us, is a testament to the high degree of expertise Veeva has for developing cloud technology that is ready to go right out of the box,” Katz concluded.
