More than 1,300 life sciences experts representing 200+ companies attended Veeva R&D and Quality Summit, Europe, in Madrid to exchange best practices, network, and collaborate with their peers. In the Quality Zone, over 300 attendees explored how to advance quality beyond its traditional boundaries — and shift gears from reactive to proactive quality management. Topics included digital validation, accelerating release and ship decisions, enabling effective external collaboration, and modernizing the quality control (QC) lab.
AI remains front of mind but there is a growing recognition that its applications must be practical and compliant. Following our announcement that GenAI is coming to the Veeva Vault Platform, we explained how Veeva AI in quality will support greater efficiency across quality assurance (QA), QC, and training.
Data transparency and trust advance external collaboration
Lonza, a leading contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO), elaborated on ways to improve industry collaboration during the Quality Zone keynote. The company streamlined its quality management systems to partner consistently across its diverse client base.
Dr. Jörg Gampfer, global head of strategic quality management, detailed the journey to enhance customer value and trust. Ambitious programs can easily come unstuck, so he advises standardizing industry practices, systems, and terminology to support joint ownership with customers. Data integrity is also critical and requires upfront agreement on data sharing across systems and partners. Dr. Gampfer advocates using common platforms that offer strong data control and ease of access, user-friendly interfaces, and good data visualization.
“There is a big opportunity for AI in quality because there are so many repetitive data-handling tasks. But you will trust your partners more when using AI if you trust the data… The fundamentals are system compatibility for data entry, so information is compatible and usable.”

To conclude the keynote, I shared the Veeva Quality Cloud vision and strategy to unify QA, QC, and training on a single platform for improved process efficiency across functions and partners. Key product advances include Veeva LIMS and Veeva Batch Release, both of which have early adopters, being ready for European customers; and Veeva Validation Management, where customers choosing digital validation are reducing effort by up to 50%.

Simplifying and standardizing with Veeva Quality Cloud
Sponsors and CDMOs are striving to simplify and standardize workflows for proactive quality. However, accelerating these efforts depends on strong user adoption. When Recipharm (a leading CDMO headquartered in Sweden) centralized with Veeva QMS, it first ran a pilot across six experienced sites. As Head of Quality Management and Regulatory Affairs Vanessa Nardolillo explains, this approach not only supported users but also addressed sites’ main question: What’s in it for me?
Several sessions covered how standardizing with Veeva Quality Cloud sets the foundation for proactive quality:
- Bayer AG’s Andrea Barz, Aniela Heidebrecht, and Olaf Ehses gave insights into the three-year transformation journey to consolidate 14 processes across 31 manufacturing sites. User collaboration has significantly improved, and less time is now spent on administrative tasks, supporting faster decisions.
- BioNTech discussed how it scaled rapidly from a niche biotech to a global company renowned for making the first-ever mRNA vaccine. As Elisabeth Bludau, senior director of global systems quality, explained, centralizing quality data in Veeva QMS ensures all stakeholders can access key information when they need to.
- Richter Biologics’ Birte Müller shared that leaving behind its legacy quality systems for Veeva Quality Cloud has resulted in a significant reduction in the number of documents and annual quality events, in addition to saving time for skilled resources.

Customer insights on process, content, training, and lab
Speakers from 16 different companies shared best practices with their peers. Session highlights included:
- Genmab explained how it shifted the company mindset from fixing problems to driving a true strategic roadmap. As Senior Manager Sofie Morville Schrøder noted, making sequential improvements doesn’t necessarily amount to innovation. Through its Veeva partnership, Genmab has pivoted toward continuous quality innovation (CQI) over a three-year timeline.
- In a GxP training panel featuring Evotec, Genmab, and Novo Nordisk, the discussion centered on engaging the modern learner. Evotec’s Documentation and Training Global Manager Cat Nelson, Genmab’s Associate Director for Process and Training Management Fiona Glenny, and Novo Nordisk’s Vault Quality Product Manager Dorte Frejwald shared their perspectives on supporting user-centric learning balanced with GxP training compliance requirements.
- Within the dedicated QC track, Alvotech deep dived on its rationale for choosing Veeva LIMS and the operational impact and improvements since roll-out. Veeva partners Zifo Technologies and Scitara provided practical advice on integrating Veeva LIMS with lab instruments and managing data migration.
Celebrating Veeva Quality Heroes
Each year, Veeva honors customers that advance digital processes and capabilities in their organizations — and our industry. The following Veeva Heroes have pushed quality management beyond its traditional boundaries to reduce cycle times and deliver for patients.
- Global alignment on quality management: Olaf Ehses, S&T senior project manager at Bayer AG, explained how consolidating six systems with Veeva QualityDocs and Veeva QMS has improved efficiency and productivity for 20,000 global users.
- Speeding up new treatments: Martin Fleming, head of QM digitalization at Boehringer Ingelheim, connected Veeva QMS with clinical and regulatory applications. More than 4,000 daily users and 1,000+ suppliers now benefit from simplified and modernized quality processes.
- Serving global markets more efficiently: Laura Prada Alonso, corporate eQMS program manager, standardized quality systems and processes so Recipharm can drive greater customer value. Since the roll-out to its 14 sites, 5,000 users and affiliates manage quality, collaborate, and execute training in Veeva Quality Cloud.
